FeNi30 Alloy Powder for Impression 3D

FeNi30 alloy powder is a type of iron-nickel alloy powder material with a nickel content of approximately 30%, which is corresponding to the soft magnetic alloy grade 1J30. It achieves an excellent balance between cost and performance through ingenious composition design, making it an indispensable basic material in multiple industrial fields.

Les FeNi30 alloy mainly exhibit a face-centered cubic (FCC) γ phase (austenite) structure at room temperature. This phase structure provides the material with excellent toughness, ductility, and non-magnetic (ferromagnetic) properties. Through appropriate heat treatment or deformation processing, the microstructure can be controlled, thereby obtaining the desired mechanical and functional properties.

FeNi30 powder by Gas atomization:

In general, inert gases (such as nitrogen and argon) are used as the crushing medium. The powder prepared by this method has a higher sphericality, smoother surface, lower oxygen content, and more uniform particle size distribution. The gas atomized powder has good fluidity and high compacting density, and is particularly suitable for injection molding (MIM), 3D printing (additive manufacturing), and the preparation of high-quality soft magnetic composite materials. Of course, its production cost is also higher than that of water atomized powder.

FeNi30 powder by Water atomization:

The process involves flowing the molten FeNi30 alloy liquid through a nozzle, which is then shattered by high-pressure water and rapidly cooled to form powder. The powder particles produced by this method are mostly irregular or nearly spherical in shape, and their surfaces may contain trace amounts of oxides (such as FeO, Fe₃O₄).

By optimizing the atomization parameters and subsequently treating with organic corrosion inhibitors, the oxygen content of the powder can be effectively reduced by 2000-2500 ppm, significantly improving the purity of the powder.

The water atomized FeNi30 powder, due to its excellent comprehensive performance and cost advantage is widely used in diamond tools and other fields as a binder phase or catalyst.

The performance of FeNi30 alloy powder is the basis for its wide application, and it is mainly reflected in the following aspects:

  1. Excellent soft magnetic properties:

FeNi30 has a high magnetic permeability and a low coercive force. This feature makes it have lower iron loss at high frequencies, and it is suitable for manufacturing high-performance electromagnetic components, such as inductors’ magnetic cores and transformer cores, etc.

  • Excellent mechanical and thermal properties:

The alloy exhibits excellent mechanical and thermal properties. Within the temperature range of 650 – 900°C, it possesses high tensile and creep strength, as well as good oxidation resistance. Its overall performance is outstanding, allowing for long-term use below 950°C, with stable microstructure and properties.

  • Résistance exceptionnelle à la corrosion :

The 30% nickel content significantly enhances the corrosion resistance of the alloy in various media, enabling it to be suitable for applications in harsh environments such as chemical equipment and marine engineering.

  • Controllable composite properties:

FeNi30 powder can be used as an excellent matrix material. Research has shown that by adding carbon nanotubes to it and using the discharge plasma sintering (SPS) technique, a nano-diamond reinforced iron-nickel composite material can be synthesized in situ. This composite material maintains the characteristics of the matrix while significantly improving the microhardness and yield strength, and greatly reducing the thermal expansion coefficient.

  • Fabrication additive (impression 3D) :

The high sphericality of gas atomized FeNi30 powder is suitable for 3D printing technologies such as laser selective melting (SLM), and can be used to directly manufacture functional components with complex internal structures and integrated forming.
